A one-day workshop on “Policy Frameworks for Sustainable Development and Integrated Approaches to Narmada River Basin Management” was organized on 29th May 2025 at IIT Indore, under the aegis of cNarmada, NASI, and DST-CPR. The event convened over 50 participants including policymakers, academicians, researchers, and development professionals to deliberate on water governance, climate resilience, and integrated river basin planning. Expert-led sessions addressed data gaps, land degradation, sustainable agriculture, and the complex hydrology of the Narmada Basin. Through case studies, technological interventions, and interdisciplinary insights, the workshop emphasized the urgent need for robust policy frameworks that bridge scientific research and practical implementation to ensure ecological integrity and socio-economic sustainability.

Key Outcomes:

  • Emphasized the importance of integrated river basin management combining traditional knowledge, scientific data, and stakeholder participation for sustainable governance of the Narmada River Basin.
  • Addressed hydrological data gaps and called for the use of remote sensing, IoT, and AI to enhance flood/drought forecasting and water resource planning.
  • Highlighted the urgent need for land degradation control through nature-based solutions and institutional innovations in Central India.
  • Released key policy documents and tools, including the Narmada Basin Report, Air Pollution Monitoring App, SDG Progress Report of Madhya Pradesh, Compilation of Work under DST-CPR
  • Advocated for interdisciplinary education and policy integration, bridging environmental science, urban planning, and socio-economic development.
